SECONDARY CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES
Category: Inadequate Containment
Industry: Scrap Metal Recycling
Subject: Inadequate Secondary Containment
THE PROBLEM:
The secondary containment holding the petroleum tanks was insufficient to contain the volume of the largest tank located within the containment. According to the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) best management practices, the secondary containment structure should hold 110% of the volume of the largest tank within the containment. It was imperative for the site to increase the containment structure size to reduce the chances of a spill.
THE SOLUTION:
The client needed to redesign their secondary containment structures.
THE RESULT:
We provided the client with a report detailing the issues with their secondary containment and followed it with a redesign of the containment structure to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
