POND VOLUME CALCULATION

THE PROBLEM:
The kaolin mining industry utilizes slurry ponds to allow clays to settle out of process water before it’s allowed to leave the subject properties and enter the receiving streams. As flocculation takes place, the slurry pond volumes are progressively reduced over time. Thus, the volume and lifetime of these ponds needs to be calculated.

THE SOLUTION:
The client needed the remaining volumes of these ponds ascertained so that the lifetimes could be calculated.

THE RESULT:
We profiled the depths of the ponds and created 3-dimensional GPS pictorial representations, allowing for the calculations to determine the exact volume of water and volume of sludge at each point in each pond.
