PETROLEUM SPILL ANALYSIS
Category: Oil Spill
Industry: Rubber Compounding
Project: Oil Spill Delineation
THE PROBLEM:
A petroleum spill occurred from an aboveground storage tank at the subject property, leading to a potential Hazardous Site Response Act (HSRA) Notification Concentration and/or a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Recovery, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Reportable Quantity. Immediate action was needed to ensure that no petroleum would reach the receiving waters, to ascertain whether or not the spill needed to be reported, and to ensure that no further spills took place.
THE SOLUTION:
The client needed the spill to be delineated and remediated using all proper procedures, laboratory analyses, and reporting of soil contamination.
THE RESULT:
We provided prompt engineering expertise to remediate the petroleum spill that flowed into the onsite recirculation pond and eventually into the soil. Three rounds of sampling events occurred at the site. The sampling events consisted of surface water sampling (Round 1) and two rounds of soil sampling (Round 2 and Round 3). The three rounds of sampling events at the facility properly delineated the petroleum spill and allowed for the excavation of contamination.
